Data and backup

You know, I have always told people that real men do not take backup, but real men cry a LOT when things crash. I got a scare today when our NAS suddenly started to beep and reported that one disk had crashed. I switched out the offending drive, but guess what? It wouldn’t recover the volume afterwords >.< What did I do? I panicked and threw in the old drive again and this time it booted, but I still couldn’t get in contact with my data. I started really to sweat and connected to the NAS using telnet, to see if the data was still there. Yep it’s there all right. Well at least it’s there so I can somehow recover it – I hope. Well after messing around for a bit more, I discovered that I did not have access to read to the shared folders with my user and after fixing that little problem, things worked just perfectly! Short downtime

We’ve had a short period where the server has been down. It was do to that I had to take two drives out of it and in the process, the network adapter for inet connection got messed up and had to be hardware reset… Everything should be up and running now though.
